Dr. Bashir Bashir


image_bashir Dr. Bashir Bashir is a research fellow in the Gilo Centre for Citizenship at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has a PhD and a Master’s degree in Political Theory from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Bachelor’s degree in Politics, Sociology and Anthropology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The title of his PhD thesis is "Reconciling Historically Excluded and Disadvantaged Groups: Deliberative Democracy, Recognition and the Politics of Reconciliation." In the academic year 2005-2006 he was awarded a fellowship in "Democracy and Diversity" at the Forum for Philosophy and Public Policy in the Philosophy Department at Queen’s University, Canada. During the fellowship at Queen's University, Bashir worked with Prof. Will Kymlicka on the project "Theories of Democratic Inclusion and The Politics of Reconciliation." He has taught Political Philosophy at the LSE, Queen's University and the Hebrew University. His primary research interests are: democratic theories of inclusion, conflict resolution and the politics of reconciliation, deliberative democracy, historical injustices, and multiculturalism. At the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute Bashir co-chairs with Prof. Yossi Yonah and Dr. Guy Ben-Porat a research group on "Public Policy and Multiculturalism in Israel." Bashir co-edits with Dr. Amos Goldberg a book with the tentative title "The Holocaust in Israel's Public Discourse: Between the Perpetuation of Victimhood and the Promise of Civility." During the academic year 2009-2010, Bashir will be a fellow at the research program "Europe in The Middle East – The Middle East in Europe" at the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin.
