Baroness Neuberger DBE was educated at Cambridge and at Leo Baeck College. She has been Senior Rabbi at West London Synagogue since 2011, before then she served the South London Liberal Synagogue in 1977-89. She chaired the Camden and Islington Community Health Services NHS Trust from 1993-1997, was Chief Executive of the King’s Fund until 2004, Chancellor of the University of Ulster from 1994-2000 and Bloomberg Professor of Divinity at Harvard University in 2006. She is also a founding trustee of the Schwab Charitable Trust, in memory of her parents.

She became a life peer in 2004 (Liberal Democrat but is now a Cross Bencher) and chaired the Commission on the Future of Volunteering from 2006-2008, was President of Liberal Judaism until Spring 2011, and was Prime Minister’s Champion for Volunteering from 2007-2009. She was Vice Chair of the UK government's review of the Mental Health Act, and was a trustee of Full fact, an organisation that promotes truthful reporting and debate. She is a Trustee of the Van Leer Group Foundation and is Chair of the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute. She is also a Trustee of the Rayne Foundation, of Independent Age and chairs University College Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust. She will become Chair of The Whittington Hospital NHS Trust on 1 April 2020.

She has written many books. Not Dead Yet – A Manifesto for Old Age was published by Harper Collins in May 2008; and Is That All There Is? Reflections on Life, Mortality and Leaving a Legacy was published in June 2011 by Rider Books. Her book Antisemitism – What it is. What is isn’t. Why it matters. was published by Orion Books in 2019.
