Prof. Strawczynski: “If the gaps do not close and are not dealt with properly, Israel’s economic growth will be endangered.” The Marker, 31.10.2013

In a new study prepared for the 2013 Caesarea Conference, a research team headed by Prof. Michel Strawczynski of the Economics and Society Program, found that Arabs and ultra-Orthodox Jews will constitute 50% of Israel’s population in 2059. They also found that if the level of their education and vocational training is not raised, it will harm Israel’s economy. The current program for improving their situation, “From Welfare to Employment,” does not provide the necessary education and vocational training to these population groups, many of whose members lack higher education and appropriate vocational training. The study also found that the productivity in Israel is lower than the average in OECD countries and that this trend is increasing.
