Dr. Andy German was born and raised in the United States and immigrated to Israel in 1994. He lives in Jerusalem. He received his PhD in 2011 from Boston University, where he wrote on self-consciousness in the thought of Plato and Hegel, under the direction of Prof. Stanley Rosen. Since 2013, Dr. German has been an assistant professor in the Philosophy Department at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev where his teaching and research interests focus on classical Greek philosophy, German philosophy of the 19th century (specifically Hegel), and the connections between them. His research has been published in venues such as The Review of Metaphysics and Polis, and he is currently working on a book on the role of self-consciousness in Plato’s critique of sophistry.
