The Israel in the Middle East cluster at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute and the Forum for Regional Thinking are publishing “The Day That Is Now:” a comprehensive policy document on the lead-up to October 7 and the current war, including a thorough analysis of local and regional dynamics and recommendations of what is needed to achieve a historic reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. The document was written from a peace-seeking Israeli perspective and is aimed at those who are prepared to adopt such a point of view. It has been endorsed by more than 120 scholars in higher education in Israel, including some in the field of the history of the Middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and this establishes it as the analysis and policy document that has received the broadest public agreement thus far in the Israeli academic community.
