The research team is examining the effects on Palestinian society in Israel of neoliberal policies in the labor market and in the development of infrastructure since the 2000s. The aim of the study is to offer a complex and thorough portrayal of the lives of Palestinians in Israel that can explain two processes simultaneously: One is the continuing oppression, which denies Palestinians civil equality and sometimes even endangers their lives. The second is the neoliberal policy, furthered by right-wing governments, that is committed to promoting Palestinians in fields of employment and in higher education. The research team is examining whether neoliberal policies indicate a historic structural change in the status of Palestinians in Israel, a change that requires new thinking about the relations between Jews and Arabs in this period. The project is funded jointly by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and The Van Leer Jerusalem Institute.
