Time of White Horses<\/em>\u00a0is a family saga spanning three generations, woven into a historical epos with many turns, from the end of the nineteenth century to the end of the British Mandate. Empires fall, rulers change, and bitter struggles take place between the Turks, the British, Jewish immigrants, and Palestinian leaders, city dwellers and villagers. All serve as a backdrop to the Palestinian\u00a0Iliad<\/em>, made up of horses that are created in a flurry of emotions, people who are born from the dust rising under the horses\u2019 shod hooves, and stories orally transmitted from generation to generation. This is a powerful realistic novel about the real place and the fictional place that language, literature, and oral history make possible.<\/p>\n

When Ibrahim Nasrallah started writing\u00a0Time of White Horses<\/em>, in 1985, he believed it would be the first of a series of novels titled \u201cThe Palestinian Comedy.\u201d However, twenty years passed and four other novels were published before Nasrallah returned to this novel and completed it.\u00a0Time of White Horses<\/em>, which became the last in the series, is itself a trilogy, and sometimes it seems that it too is not yet completed.<\/p>\n

Ibrahim Nasrallah (b. 1954 in the Al-Wehdat refugee camp in Amman) is a Palestinian-Jordanian novelist and poet whose family was uprooted in 1948 from its home in Al-Burayj, west of Jerusalem. His novels, including\u00a0Birds of Caution<\/em>,\u00a0Eraser Child<\/em>,\u00a0Gaza Weddings<\/em>,\u00a0The Lanterns of the King of Galilee<\/em>,\u00a0Under the Midmorning Sun<\/em>, and\u00a0Kilimanjaro Spirit<\/em>, have been translated into many languages.\u00a0Time of White Horses<\/em>\u00a0is the first of his novels to appear in Hebrew.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
