His award-winning work focuses on a "history from below," looking past major political elites to understand how everyday North African Jewish communities, families, and authorities navigated changing legal structures, modern cultural shifts, and gender dynamics. It is this same deep dive into archival fragments and social history that informed his paper on the early 20th-century Judeo-Moroccan novel.
