Through the story of Naila Ayish, a young student and political activist, Naila and the Uprising brings a feminist perspective to the Palestinian struggle in the years before and during the first intifada. The film combines documentary clips with original animation and contemporary interviews to stimulate thoughts about the idea of liberation—both gender and national—and the role of women in such struggles. In the discussion we will explore the role of women in the Palestinian national struggle, from the first intifada to this day, through a variety of perspectives.
