A workshop in conjunction with the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle (Germany), focusing on the influence of religion and culture on biomedical practices in the Middle East and Europe. At this international workshop, original research and papers will be presented by scholars from around the world who study the encounter of biomedicine with religion and culture in pluralistic societies. Specifically, the workshop will focus on how these encounters challenge certain minority populations in Europe and the Middle East.
The keynote lecture will be delivered by Prof. Marcia Einhorn. The workshop will include three parts: the first will focus on various conflicts related to fertility technologies; the second will deal with the acceptance of technologies related to gender and sexuality; and the third will deal with organ donation and transplantation.
