This book discusses the increase in Arab women's participation in local and national politics. It is a pioneering study that documents the phenomenon and analyzes it in the context of the unique sociopolitical status of the Arabs in Israel. Dr. Khawla Abu-Baker presents the stories of several Arab women, bolstered by their spirit of daring and their sense of leadership, who succeeded in combining care of their families with public activity to promote the status of Arab women. The author surveys the many hurdles, both within and outside the home, that the women interviewed had to overcome to be integrated in public activity in their localities.
