This book presents a new, multicultural agenda for analyzing and reorganizing Israeli society. By combining a fundamental philosophical theory with sensitive sociological observation it offers the reader a new and original way of understanding the structure of Israeli society.

The book’s chapters focus on three spheres—education, migration, and the allocation of the resources of land and housing—and broaden the multicultural discussion from an engagement with intellectual property only to questions of material inequality.

The author points out the mechanisms that simultaneously create the national collective and its identity and the national, ethnic, and class hierarchies within it. He analyzes these mechanisms and deconstructs the usual distinctions between identity and class and between awareness and allocation of resources.
