A Screening and Discussion |

DOCAVIV In collaboration with the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute

Rule of Stone by filmmaker Danae Elon, deals with the inseparable ties between architecture and political goals in Jerusalem after 1967. The film focuses on the work of architects and the use of stone, as political tools for the urban and national governments to carry out a policy of annexation that would design a united city, a symbol of national sovereignty and Jewish continuity, while erasing the Palestinian history and presence in the city.

The discussion after the screening will address the long-term effects of these processes on the lives of Jews and Palestinians in Jerusalem and will examine different aspects of daily life in this contested urban space.

The dilm was developed at The Intellectual Incubator for Documentary Filmmakers at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute.
