Dr. Matteo D'Avanzo

Matteo D’Avanzo is a historian of African Judaism, colonialism, and the Holocaust. He completed his PhD in History at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and INALCO in Paris in 2026.
His current postdoctoral project examines Jewish-Christian relations in Africa after 1945, focusing on how African Christianities engaged with Judaism, antisemitism, Holocaust memory, and decolonization.
