August 2021. After two decades of advancing women’s rights, international forces withdraw from Afghanistan. The Taliban swiftly seizes control and enforces Sharia law. Educated women who once symbolized progress now become targets. Hanna, the first female judge in her province, flees to Kabul; Gul, a police officer, rushes to the airport; Shakiba, a young and famous singer, hides in a safe house; and Fatima, a champion cyclist, is stranded at home. Desperate, they send frantic messages for help.
Danna Harman, an Israeli-American journalist, receives hundreds of messages from Afghan women she once wrote about. Determined to help despite her lack of experience, Danna mobilizes an impromptu group of friends, colleagues, activists, and decision-makers from around the world for an extraordinary rescue mission.
