The project aims to promote new thinking about the curriculum for teaching Arabic in Hebrew-language schools in Israel. The project was formulated in 2016 as a joint initiative of The Van Leer Jerusalem Institute and The Abraham Initiatives. As part of the project, a public council was formed to promote Arabic. In addition, a broad research forum was formed that included dozens of researchers, Arabs and Jews, from various fields of knowledge. The project included field research conducted in partnership with high school students throughout the country. The scholars and the students examined together how Arabic is learned in the classroom. The conclusions drawn from this study, together with recommendations of the research forum, were combined in an innovative research report, which was published in August 2020.
