Salman Natour – The Final Lecture 3.10.2015
Language and Place: Temporary Residency or Permanent Residency
On December 3, 2015, a unique conference took place at Tel Aviv University, conducted entirely in Arabic. During the conference, writer and playwright Salman Natour, one of the founders of the Maktoob series, which is dedicated to the translation of Arabic literature into Hebrew, delivered a lecture. In it, Natour spoke about the Jewish relationship with the Arabic language, relations between Jews and Arabs, and the possibility that still exists for reconciliation and shared life in this land. About two months later, on February 15, 2016, Natour suffered a heart attack and passed away, leaving behind a family and a circle of friends who were shocked and deeply saddened. Today, on the tenth anniversary of his death, we are releasing the video of this lecture with subtitles in Hebrew and English, in memory of this great humanist and his final, resonant message.
